Satirical Hip-Hop Artist MC Hawking to Perform for the real Stephen Hawking at 2016 STARMUS Festival

Boston, Massachusetts – May 18, 2016 – Satirical hip-hop artist, MC Hawking, has announced he will be performing at the 2016 STARMUS festival in the Canary Island. This year’s festival is being held in honor of Professor Stephen Hawking.
Founded in 2011 by world renowned astrophysicist Garik Israelian, STARMUS festival is a collection of science, art and music that features presentations from Astronauts, Cosmonauts, Nobel Prize Winners and other prominent figures.

Created by musician Ken Lawrence from Gloucester, Massachusetts, MC Hawking is the ‘rapper’ alter-ego of Stephen Hawking. Lawrence created this musical persona in the early 2000’s and released several hit tracks utilizing a synthesized text-to-speech program to emulate Stephen Hawking’s distinctive voice. Lawrence’s creation became a popular figure amongst the ‘nerd-core’ community and tracks such like ‘The Hawkman Cometh’ and ‘Entropy’ became instant internet sensations. Lawrence’s viral work received international interest leading to a record deal with Brash Music and the release of his first album MC Hawking: A Brief History of Rhyme.

“It is an honor to perform not only for Professor Hawking, but to other legendary scientists, musicians, and world dignitaries, “says Lawrence. “Professor Hawking is a pillar within the scientific community and it still feels surreal that I will be performing for him.”

In addition to Professor Hawking, other luminaries who will be in attendance at this year’s STARMUS festival include:

  • Academy Award winning composer Hans Zimmer

  • Grammy Award winning soprano Sara Brightman

  • Grammy Award winning musician/producer Brian Eno,

  • Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman

  • Grammy Award winning soprano Montserrat Caballe

  • Scientist/author/television personality Neil deGrasse Tyson.
