More Nerdcore Happenings

Well, more big news on the nerdcore front. The New York Times ran a rather lengthy article about nerdcore in this Sunday's edition. Yours truly was interviewed and featured as well as MC Frontalot, MC Chris and a few others.

According to the article I am a 'a self-described 'half-black' Web designer.' I'm not sure why the write felt the need to put 'half-black' in quotes; perhaps he doubted my half-black status. When he called about the interview he said something to the effect of: 'Frontalot said he only knew of one black nerdcore artist, is that you?' To which I replied, 'well, technically I'm half black, but I'm probably who he meant, yeah.'

At least this guy got it right. Half-black in quotes is better than the way I've been described by other writers. Other newspaper and magazine articles, written by people who only spoke to me over the phone and never saw a picture of me or asked about my ethnic background, have described me as a 'nerdy, white-guy,' and 'white and geeky-looking,' among other things.
